Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

The IMechE is a world leading organisation in mechanical engineering, working from the development of industrial assembly equipment to world class aircraft and shipping. If your area of interest is applying Hook's law of motion then these are the people for you.

So what do they offer: They offer a large range of CPD events and conferences looking into modern developing technologies and principles. If your studying for a higher educational qualification in mechanical engineering, then you will not find a better institution to enable your learning development.

BIM+ is a element of construction magazine run by the CIOB. This page gives update reports on the progress and movements within the construction industry in regards to BIM. The articles are very well written and are accredited on their CPD page.

So what do they offer: Great online CPD on up to date matters such as BIM. You will have to register for free on the CM training site (you don't need to find it, BIM+ will take you to it) but once you've logged in there is a wealth of articles to read relating to all elements of construction. You will need to take the tests to get accredited certificates. If your looking to get involved in a BIM project and have a technical background have a look at the class of your own program, you may be able to help others while developing yourself.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology

The IET is a centre for excellence in information on what is happening in the modern world of engineering and where the industry is heading. The IET love new tech and drive to show you what has worked and where possible what has not.

So what do they offer: Their online page shows a great range of links to articles on the build environment, energy projects, design information as well as transport and general day to day engineering information. They also offer links to a number of online communities if you require to ask a question to people in your sector.

The Local Authority Building Control (LABC)

The LABC is probably a strange organisation to be located in a engineering section, but building control is a vital element in design; if you do not comply with it, then you normally can not build it. The LABC have also been working with leading agencies to understand what effects materials and practises are having on modern structures.

So what do they offer: The LABC have a large range of courses on offer based around building practices and of course matters relating to building control; these have been designed for members of the building control industry but are great avenues to finding out what is going on in buildings today and what effects changes in building techniques are having on structures over time. Just remember if you do not know the effects of a material ,you shouldn't be using it.

The Institution of Structural Engineers

As the home of structural engineering, the IStructE is the core of structural engineering thinking and accreditation. So if your interest is looking at loadings and their effects on materials then you IStructE should have something for you.

So what do they offer: The IStructE conduct a number of presentations at their home in London Westminster. The IStructE are conducting a series on online webinars for all to watch and attend.

Institution of Civil Engineers

The ICE is the home of civil engineering within the UK and operates around the world. Civil Engineers take on many different projects from bridges to dams, if this what your looking for then the ICE are for you.

So what do they offer: The ICE conduct a number of presentations at their home in London Westminster. The ICE are conducting a series on online webinars for all to watch and attend.
